unMonastery
The unMonastery is a European pilot aiming to support young people growing up in a time of crisis. The first unMonastery is kicking off in Italy (where else?) providing a group of young people with a place to live, eat and work together.
The test group are activists and hackers from the UK, Norway, Poland, France and Sweden: they’ll be remixing local spaces, hanging out for community meditation and other hip stuff.
unMonasteries have grown from Edgeryders, an excellent citizens’ network being brokered by the Council of Europe. It’s heartening to know that the kind of open-ended community building that myself and many others worked at in the past has managed to adapt to new thinking and hasn’t yet been wiped out by the crash.
Edgeryders (a great scheme, but sounds like a mid-1980s SF film) is here
