Lomo > Instagram > Lytro?
The Lytro is – or looks to be – the biggest upsetter in personal photography since the mobile phone camera. The Lytro is the first widely available plenoptic camera. The hook is – as I struggle to understand it – you whip it out and it captures raw visual data on the fly, which you focus into and explore later, to create actual images. Designwise, it reminds me of the funkier Lomo cameras – it looks like a giant lipstick – but costs around $400. There’s a great hands-on report on the link below. According to reports on the web, Steve Jobs wanted the Lytro technology for the next iteration of Apple products, but passed on before making the deal.
