Canadian sculptor Timothy Schmalz‘s thought-provoking “Homeless Jesus”, which depicts Jesus as a homeless outcast sleeping on a bench, made a name for itself earlier in the year when it was rejected by two top Catholic churches.
Bosses at St. Michael’s Cathedral, Toronto and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York had told Schmalz; “it was not an appropriate image.” But now the sculpture is installed outside Regis College at the University of Toronto.
Schmalz said: ”People can walk the streets of Toronto and see massive multi-million dollar condos, and at the foot of these buildings are the human beings who don’t have enough to eat. Society is not lacking money, we put our self-worth in money.”
