Reddit user Rude Bootie has collected over a hundred gaming backgrounds from the nineties, stripped them back to the raw art for each stage, and rendered them as gentle gif animations. Perfect. Back in the day I was a fighting game junkie: Capcom’s ‘Street Fighter’ and ‘Darkstalkers’ series, SNK’s ‘King of Fighters‘ and ‘Last Blade’. The technology was simple, but the graphics were often unexpectedly subtle, beautiful, humorous and evocative.
